Felony Charges In Indiana

In Indiana, felony charges range from a Level 6 felony to a Level 1 felony. A Level 6 felony, like theft, carries a sentence of six to 18 months in state prison, while a Level 1 felony, like attempted murder, may carry a sentence of 20 to 40 years in prison.
Under Indiana law, judges may convert certain Level 6 felony charges to Class A misdemeanor charges. The judge may choose to do this on their own, upon a defendant’s petition to the court or after an agreement with the prosecutor.
